The Fairy Godmother Program

Supporting Princess Graduates in their transition to future success

Enrollment is now open for the 2023 program

The Fairy Godmother Program is a mentorship experience that empowers female graduates who face financial or social barriers as they work toward their goals by nurturing self-confidence and self-reliance.

We connect female Grade 12 graduates with mentors (Fairy Godmothers) in our community and help them develop long-lasting relationships that deliver positive outcomes for both participants.

What can Graduates expect?

Maybe you’re looking for guidance as you apply for scholarships, create your resume or prepare for job interviews. Perhaps you’re looking for a support system that will help you build life skills and generate the motivation you need to achieve those big goals you’ve been dreaming of. Or you might want to connect with peers who can cheer you on through this transition.

The Fairy Godmother Program provides that sense of social support with 7 months of activities and connections designed to help you nurture self-awareness, build on your strengths and make big steps forward in your life.

Is the Fairy Godmother Program right for me?

The Fairy Godmother Program is for female graduates who have participated in our Dress Program and want additional support as they transition into the next phase of their lives. Whether you want to connect with a more established mentor or a peer with similar interests, we’ll find the right match to help you reach your goals.

Bottom Line

If you want a support system to help you build on your personal strengths, increase confidence and learn life skills like budgeting and time management - the Fairy Godmother Program is for you.

What can Fairy Godmothers expect?

Our Fairy Godmothers are generous women in our community who want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young women, girls and 2SLGBTQ+.

As a Fairy Godmother, you can increase your own sense of self-awareness and build your mentorship skills - all while giving back to your community.

Is the Fairy Godmother role right for me?

Our Fairy Godmothers are established in their own lives and want to act as a role model, helping their matched graduate develop confidence and increased independence. You’ll be willing to commit 1-2 hours per month from September to March, plus a few hours through July and August for onboarding into your new role as a mentor.

Bottom Line

If you want to create a meaningful, mutually beneficial connection and can commit to volunteering a couple hours of your time each month throughout the Program - you’re a great candidate for the Fairy Godmother role.

How does the Fairy Godmother Program work?

The Fairy Godmother Program is designed to foster long-lasting relationships, often extending beyond the length of the Program.

Here’s how we do it:

  • We create thoughtful matches between Princess Graduates and Fairy Godmothers, based on mutual interests, goals and shared connection
  • Each month, we share valuable content around a core topic and provide Fairy Godmothers with resources to guide conversations and deepen connection
  • We organize multiple in-person events throughout the Program to create an environment of fun and foster connection within the Fairy Godmother community

Program History

The mission of the Fairy Godmother Program is to assist Princess Graduates in nurturing the self-awareness, self-confidence, motivation, and life skills to accomplish their goals. The Fairy Godmother (mentor) provides encouragement and support in bringing these ambitions to reality. It is our hope that the Princess Graduates and their respective Fairy Godmothers develop a relationship that, whether it lasts a year or a lifetime, will enrich the lives of both.

Established in 2010, the purpose of the program is to provide Princess Graduates who have participated in The Princess Shop's Dress Program with the opportunity to build a positive relationship with a mentor in our community. These mentors, known as Fairy Godmothers, are volunteers who are established and stable in their own lives and wish to make a difference in the lives of young women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ graduates.

This program recognizes the importance of role models in the development of self-confident and independent graduates. The program aims to contribute to the successful transition from high school to future success. Also, because of the strong influence a mentor has within their family, a positive impact on a graduate also affects their family and, ultimately, our entire community.
